متن کاملLeptin and Nutritional Markers in Childhood Protein-Energy Malnutrition
Leptin is an important signal in metabolic/endocrine adaptation to prolonged nutritional deprivation. This cross-sectional study was performed to determine alterations associated with protein-energy malnutrition in serum levels of leptin and classical nutritional markers. Forty-two children with protein-energy malnutrition was classified according to Gomez and 21 healthy controls were recruited...
متن کاملJejunal disaccharidases in protein energy malnutrition and recovery.
The jejunal disaccharidases, sucrase, maltase and lactase, were determined in jejunal biopsies obtained from 43 malnourished children and 10 controls. In the study group, 63% were girls and 93% had severe malnutrition. Lactase activity was significantly reduced in third and fourth degree malnutrition (p < 0.05 and p < 0.005, respectively), but maltase activity was significantly reduced only in ...

OBJECTIVE To analyze the total energy expenditure (TEE) and resting energy expenditure (REE) in children with cerebral palsy (CP) and moderate or severe malnutrition during nutritional recovery. METHODS In an intervention study, thirteen subjects with CP (10 females and 3 males with a mean age of 9y11m ± 2y3m), level V of the Gross Motor Function Classification System and moderate or severe m...
متن کاملHigh energy feeding in protein-energy malnutrition.
The use of a high-fat diet in malnourished children produced accelerated growth of lean tissues as well as adipose tissue, and resulted in rapid nutirtional rehabilitation in 25 seriously malnourished babies. Such diets are easy to prepare and relatively cheap, and they offer important advantages over conventional feeding in the hospital treatment of malnourished children.
